The New Media Institute (NMI) is a research and fact finding organization whose mission is to improve public understanding of issues surrounding the Internet and other forms new media communications. NMI works directly with the news media, researchers, academics, government and industry professionals and serves as a primary resource of facts, statistics and analysis.
Jessica Trybus - Game Based Learning & Communications Expert

Trybus is the New Media Institute's resident Game Based Learning & Communications Guru and is widely known as THE expert in gaming technology and the development of training software that utilizes simulation and video game techniques and technologies fore more effective learning retention. Jessica heads up the consulting arm of the New Media Institute that develops such technology for private companies and government agencies.
Jessica is Director of Edutainment of Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), a global program mixing artists with technologists, and working with leading corporations, foundations, schools and museums to build new tools for inspiration, entertainment and education. Her work at the University focuses on the R&D of how to build game-based learning to engage and motivate, with emphasis on exploring younger generations, and has contributed to CMU's recognition as an international leader in marrying engaging interface with education and learning goals.
In addition to her continuing work at the ETC in 2005 Jessica, along with faculty and graduates of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), founded Etcetera Edutainment, a software company delivering 3D games and simulation products to improve learning and retention for industrial and workplace safety. At the company, she focuses on how corporations save significant money (and in some cases lives) when they employ game-based training to teach safety practices to current and incoming employees.
Jessica also currently serves on the Board of the Andy Warhol Museum, and on the Board of TiE-Pittsburgh. Prior to working with interactive entertainment technologies, Jessica spent several years in marketing, business development, and project management with Viacom and AltaVista (Palo Alto). She also worked as an assistant within Flower Films, Drew Barrymore's production company. Jessica received her B.A. from Cornell University and her Masters Degree in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University.
